A steaming cup of coffee in the morning. A refreshing cocktail with dinner. Whichever your preference, a personalized drink cart could be the perfect way to serve them. Drink carts can elevate the serving experience, as well as provide a dedicated, styled space. You’ll be able to store bottles, syrups, glasses and more in a far more stylized manner.

Drink carts like bar carts and coffee carts also allow you to display attractive items like meaningful mugs or hand-blown glassware. They might even motivate you to stay home for that next cup of coffee or glass of wine!

With the below tips, you’ll design a drink space that reflects your tastes and style.

Step 1: Selecting your cart

  • Find a cart or similar furniture piece that fits in your space and aligns with your kitchen decor. You might use a new utility cart, repurpose a small kitchen island, or find an antique furniture piece. Even a small buffet or side table would work!
  • If you have kids, you might consider using furniture for your “cart” that has doors, so you can stash breakables or other items away from tiny hands.
  • Plan ahead for what you’d like to store. Will you need multiple shelves to store syrups, mugs and coffee pods? Or will you need lots of vertical room for tall wine or liquor bottles? If you’re a minimalist, you may only want selected coffee or bar items in view on the cart, versus displaying your full mug or glassware collection.

Step 2: Stocking your cart

  • Whether you’re styling a coffee cart or bar cart, drinkware is essential. Choose your favorite pieces to feature or purchase a matching set.
  • Include statement pieces like an attractive canister of coffee beans, or a copper ice bucket with bar tools.
  • Layer in your bottles or storage containers from tallest to shortest, so you can see all of the items you’re storing on the cart. Also, feature bottles or products on the cart with beautiful labels that add to your luxury look.

Step 3: Styling your cart

  • Use ingredients as styling pieces. You can display fresh citrus fruits on your bar cart, or put your coffee syrups in matching bottles in your preferred style.
  • If you’re hosting a meal, feature large-format drinks on your cart for easy access. Think a pitcher of iced coffee for brunch, or a dispenser of rum punch at happy hour.
  • Have fun with your bar or coffee cart styling! You can start with simple decorating for holidays. Feature festive Christmas mugs or a vase of fresh tulips for Easter. Next, get more adventurous with drink ingredients that relate to the seasons. You might display cinnamon sticks or dried orange slices for a fall coffee or cocktail.
  • Think of non-drink related styling pieces as well. A candle, a book (maybe a cocktail or coffee book!) or a plant can help you infuse your personal style into the cart.
